Brazil- UF Undergraduate Exchange Program

This program was initiated with funding from the US Department of Education FIPSE group. Its goals were to:

1) develop a bilingual professional cohort with knowledge in Natural Resource Management in tropical and temperate environments; and

2) promote understanding of Brazilian culture through studying and living in that culture; while training at a Brazilian University in the native language.

We are partnered with Dr. Larry Morris at the University of Georgia and Dr. Nairam Barros at the Universidade Federal de Viçosa. The Universidade Federal da Bahia was also a partner; however, the Spring of 2007, students will only be traveling to Viçosa.

So far, we have organized 17 semesters of exchange for 14 UF students Currently (Fall 2006) we have one student in Viçosa and one in Bahia. Our program at UF has also accepted 12 students from Brazil totaling 19 semesters of exchange. Spring 2007 will be the last semester for which the program can provide a mobility stipend for travel to Brazil for US students. However, UF students who wish to travel are still eligible for scholarships through the International Center at UF.
